Location
Brazil is on the eastern portion of South America boardering the Atlantic Ocean. The northern most latitude is 05N and the southern most latitude is 30S. The equator passes directly over the mouth of the Amazon River. Brazil shares boarders with
Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia,, French Guiana,
Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname,
Uruguay, and Venezuela.
Size
It is the largest country in South America as well as the Southern Hemisphere. If we drew a straight line from the northern most tip to the southern
most tip, it would stretch roughly 2,100nm. That's nearly the distance
from Hawaii to Southern California. Brazil has a land area 104% the size of the continental United States.
Terrain
Moving from North to South Brazil's terrain changes dramatically. In the north are mostly rolling lowland basins, the Amazon river basin being the largest. Moving south, the terrain transforms into plains, hills, and mountains, with the highest mountain,
Pico da Neblina, at 2,994m. Near the Atlantic, the terrain becomes more coastal.
